Waaidam is situated in the centre between JHB, DBN and BFN, approximately 9km
from the N3, close enough to the main road, yet far enough to get away from the
noise of the traffic. It is the ideal destination for overnight accommodation,
weekend getaways, to meet friends, family and colleagues halfway for reunions,
or conferences.
Description
This stylish Free State guest farm is part of a working environment, which
includes cattle, sheep and horse farming. It boasts a fascinating sandstone
venue, luxury en-suite rooms that create an 'old meets new' atmosphere with
traditional and solid wood furniture, passed on through generations. On this
family-owned Free State farm you can escape the city noise and stress. Relax and
enjoy the clear blue sky and magnificent sunsets. At night you can see the stars
come so close that you can almost touch it. From Waaidam you have a magnificent
view of the mountains and the Free State flats.
Accommodation
The thirteen rooms each have a bathroom with a basin, toilet and shower. There
are coffee making facilities and towels, soap and shampoo are supplied.
Housekeeping also provides most of the necessary toiletries that guests might
have forgotten: toothbrush, toothpaste, razors, and headache pills. Etc. All the
rooms have panel heaters and some of the rooms have a communal fireplace for
extra winter warmth.
Waaidam can offer accommodation for up to 44 guests.

Conference
Conferences facilities are available for up to 100 delegates in the boardroom
and this includes audio visual equipment, white boards, a flip chart, as well as
the stationery that is required for any type of conference or function. Water
and peppermints are standard.
Coffee and tea with biscuits, is served to delegates, relaxing between sessions.
All meals are served at conferences.
Chapel
The chapel includes a lectern and sound system and features a magnificent view
of the Free State flats. It can accommodate 200 guests. The more traditional
organ and piano are also available.
Lounge
There is a comfortable lounge in front of a giant fireplace for those chilly
evenings.
Communication facilities
Wireless internet is available and cell phone reception is excellent for all
networks.

If you are a 'meat-gravy-and-potato'-lover, this is the place for you!
Traditional dishes offered on Waaidam are well-known for its taste and superb
presentation.
A choice can be made from a suggested list of dishes for functions or you can
discuss your preferences with us.

A bar is available and serves a variety of drinks.
Music and sound
The built-in sound system provides background music and there is a public
address system or additional amplifier and 500w speakers available for dances.
Wedding venue
For a wedding like you haven't seen before, Waaidam caters and offers all
services for up to 250 guests, including a chapel , entertainment area, dance
floor and honeymoon suite.
We can arrange everything - the flowers, wedding cake, etc.
Camping
There is an ablution block for campers and caravan campers. Electric power
supply point available. Also available is a camping area in the bush for those
who want to in the veld.
Swimming pools
Waaidam offers its guests a heated indoor swimming pool, next to bar and shop as
well as an outdoor pool, to relax in the sun.
Team building
A range of activities out in the bush, as well as indoors for older or less
active people are presented with your own needs in mind. Request your need:
communication, innovation, team work etc. During bad weather there are lots of
space and activities to continue indoors.
Recreation facilities
Volleyball, jukskei, paintball, walking trails, indoor heated swimming pool,
outdoor swimming pool, board games. Stress out on the golf driving course.

Braai facilities inside and outside with canopies for protection, against sun
and rain.
Game
A variety of game and wild animals can be seen on Waaidam. These include:
blesbuck, wildebeest, meerkat, sungazer, duiker, and klipspringer.
Birds
Blue crane, Secretary bird, Kiewiet, Patrys, Tarentaal, Ducks and a lot more in
the wild. Peacocks are tame on the farmyard and are fed each morning, also geese
and ducks.
Farming
Farming on Waaidam is traditional: sheep, cattle, horses, pigs and geese and
other feathered folk. Maize, wheat and beans are mainly planted on the fields.
Visiting us can give you a hands-on-experience with farm animals and activities
such as milking cows, and feeding pigs.
What to see in the area
Waaidam is 15 km from Harrismith with many historical sites and buildings, a
magnificent town hall and the third oldest golf course in the country.
It is within easy reach of the Maluti and Drakensberg mountains for a day trip
to Mount Aux Sources and other locations. Other destinations include the
traditional Sotho village, Sterkfontein-Tugela Water scheme and lion farm.
